Privacy & data

TomaNote is offline-first and private by design: your notes never leave your device.

  • Notes and tabs are stored in your browser’s local storage (under the key tabsData).
  • There are no accounts, no servers and no external data transmission.
  • The app works offline, and an installed version (PWA) caches the app itself for offline use.
  • Browsers cap local storage at about 5 MB per origin. Very long notes, or many notes, could approach this limit.
  • Clearing your browser’s site data (cache / storage) deletes your notes. There is no built-in export/import yet, so if you plan to clear data, copy important notes elsewhere first.
  • Don’t rely on TomaNote as the only copy of critical information.
  • Keep a backup by copying note text to a file while the app is running.
  • Avoid storing highly sensitive information — data lives locally, but a shared device is a shared risk.
